The meaning behind our name.
Halmony. (Sounds like Harmony.) It means grandmother in Korean. The matriarchs in our family are the inspiration for our desire to create modern ethnic food. They loved us through the meals they prepared, and despite scarcity and lack, used their creativity to make abundance. From their most basic desire to feed us emerged a cuisine. Women of color like them are true culinary geniuses.
Modern. While our foods are rooted in tradition, we push the limits on new and exciting flavors that reflect the diversity of today’s global cuisine.
Ethnic. The food of immigrants and diverse communities should be valued and celebrated. We seek to reclaim this term as a recognition of culture, homeland, and identity.
